About Awal Studio
Awal Studio is an independent type foundry and design studio in Jakarta, Indonesia.
We create original typefaces and typography-led identities, with particular attention to Arabic and multilingual typography.
Awal Studio began in 2017 as the personal design practice of Abdurrahman Hanif, making event posters and helping people with everyday design needs. It has since grown from a local Indonesian practice into a studio working with clients worldwide.
Our work begins with language, reading, and context. We draw from historical and regional forms, then build them into clear contemporary systems for print and digital use.
