Licensing
A font license should help people understand what they can do, who is covered and what needs an additional license. It should not require legal training to make an ordinary purchase. These are the questions we think every license should answer, and how ours answers them.
1. Who is the licensee?
A license belongs to the person or organization named at purchase. If you buy for your company, use the company name. Contractors, printers and production vendors may use the font temporarily to finish work for you, but they must keep the files private and delete them afterwards.
2. What is the font used for?
Different uses carry different risks and different scale, so we separate them:
- Desktop: design and print work, logos, social media, advertising, merchandise and finished video. Counted per user.
- Webfont: live text on websites you own or control. Counted by combined monthly pageviews.
- Publishing: books, magazines, newspapers, e-books and PDFs. Counted per publication title.
- App & Platform: mobile and desktop apps, games, software and SaaS. Counted by combined monthly users or downloads.
If you have more than one use, buy each matching license, for example Desktop + Webfont.
3. How much use is covered?
Each license type has a quantity: users, pageviews, titles or app users. Choose the tier that matches your use today. The selected limit is recorded on your order, so you can always check what you bought.
4. How long does it last?
Standard licenses are perpetual. You pay once for the styles and scope you choose. There is no subscription.
5. What is never allowed?
Sharing, sublicensing or redistributing the font files. Buying a license gives you the right to use the font, not to pass the files on. This is the rule that protects everyone who paid for a license.
6. What happens when you grow?
Teams grow and websites get more traffic. You can upgrade a license you bought from us: open My Licensed Fonts, choose Upgrade, and pick a larger tier or more styles within the same license type. You pay only the difference from what you already paid.
7. Are there special cases?
Yes, two. Active students and educators get 50% off a Desktop license for their own educational work. Client and institutional work is excluded. Organizations that use a font across many teams, brands and products can choose a Corporate license, which covers unlimited employees and installations for one legal entity.
If your use does not fit any of these, ask us before you buy. A short email now is easier than fixing a licensing problem later.
